Dispute hold

« Back to Glossary Index

A dispute hold is a situation in which an invoice is put on hold because the customer is disputing it. It is no longer subject to normal collection efforts as long as the dispute remains open.

Example

The customer reports an error in the quantity. The invoice is marked as “on hold due to dispute”: automatic reminders stop, and a task is created for the relevant department.

Why It’s Important

Following up with a customer about an invoice they’re disputing is frustrating and pointless. Placing a hold on the invoice prevents this, but the hold must be monitored so it doesn’t last indefinitely.
