Registered mail

« Back to Glossary Index

Registered mail is a letter for which proof of both sending and receipt is provided. It can be in paper form, with a return receipt, or in electronic form (ERE, electronic registered letter).

Example

A formal notice is sent via certified email on Monday. The customer acknowledges receipt on Wednesday: the company now has dated proof of receipt.

Why It’s Important

It lends credibility to important follow-ups. The electronic version is less expensive, is sent in a matter of seconds, and can be tracked online.
