Invoice correction

« Back to Glossary Index

An invoice correction corrects an error on an invoice that has already been sent—such as price, quantity, sales tax, or other details. The original invoice is not modified; instead, a credit memo is issued, followed by a new, corrected invoice if necessary.

Example

An invoice lists 10 units instead of 8. The supplier issues a credit memo for the original invoice and a new invoice for 8 units.

Why It’s Important

A false invoice is rarely paid on time. Correcting it quickly and thoroughly prevents a protracted dispute and ensures that your accounting records remain accurate.
